Untamed:My Voice Is a Medication To Heal
Do you know what winning the AFCON meant to Nigerian youths in this rugged time and dispensation?
It was more than football and much more than a trophy. Nigerians just want to wipe the tears off their eyes even for a moment.
Iwobi was carrying the happiness of 200 million Nigerians on his shoulders and truth be told, he underperformed and it was obvious.
If he wasn’t related to Okocha, he probably wouldn’t have made the line up and the expectations would’ve been much lower.
His performance was disappointing in contrast to his uncle Okocha and he broke a lot of hearts with it.
I will NEVER support of the cyber bullying, It is too extreme and he doesn’t deserve the slandering but this is Nigeria.
NIGERIANS are angry, they are hungry, they are frustrated at the high cost of living and to top it all, bad governance.
This is still not an excuse, Man put his sweat and blood on the pitch to make us proud, it just wasn’t enough.
We have all at some point in our lives underperformed and fell below expectations so we should know what it feels like to fail.
If anything, we should put aside our pain to appreciate and celebrate his efforts. He is one of us. We win together, We lose together.
I am not asking you to stop feeling disappointed. Be angry but don’t lash it all out on him. He did his best.
Don’t make him a scapegoat. Don’t ruin his self esteem and don’t make him feel like a loser. He deserved better.
Cyber bullying is CAPITAL WRONG and no one should have to go through it but again, this is football, it comes with the banter.
This is just a bad outing for Iwobi and I am sure he will come out stronger as I wish him all the best going forward.
